A cattle producer from Alberta has been named to the executive of the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (GRSB).

Bob Lowe, a Nanton area rancher and feedlot operator, will serve as Vice-President.

Lowe has served as President of the Canadian Cattlemen's Association since March 2020.

He says it's important to have Canada and producers represented at the table.

"We lead the world in sustainability, and a sustainable beef industry. We've kind of got a job to do to show the rest of the world how to do it, in order to make sure we still have an industry."

Lowe says the overall goal of the GRSB is to promote the sustainability of the beef industry globally.

"The GRSB I believe is the organization that should be talking to global leaders, U-N countries, major global corporations for the voice of cattle production, but at a very high level. I don't think it's the GRSB's role to get down into day to day management of cattle herds or telling producers how and what they should do."

The Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef represents 12 regional roundtables, and over 500 members in 24 different countries.

The GRSB reports its member organizations are responsible for more than two thirds of cross-border beef trade.
