It’s Biotech Week in Saskatchewan.

Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart says our province is a leader in agricultural biotechnology research.

Saskatchewan hosts about a third of Canada’s agricultural bio-science industry with biotechnology focused on a number of areas including genomics, plant-made pharmaceuticals, and industrial bio-products.

Stewart notes Saskatchewan farmers are leaders in agricultural production in part because of advances in biotechnology, which has led to hardier, higher-yielding crops.

Biotech Week is an opportunity to acknowledge the value of biotechnology not only to agriculture and other sectors, but also to our economy.

Activities are being held in Saskatoon and Regina this week.
