A Conservative Member of Parliament says Chinese importers have told Canadian producers and companies their wheat, peas, flax, and canola moving to China will be under heavy scrutiny.

John Barlow says these substantial inspections are a warning to Canadian producers.

"If Canadian companies want to send those products and commodities to China, they're taking a risk that it will be turned back. That's an expensive gamble to take."

On Tuesday, March 26, it was reported China has suspended the canola export permits from Regina-based company Viterra Inc.

Earlier this month, Richardson International also had their canola permits revoked.

Barlow says during Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's visit to Winnipeg, he says he's thinking seriously about sending a delegation to China.

"That's disconcerting, the fact that he is still thinking about it," Barlow says. "This is a crisis. He needs to take action, and very serious action quickly."

He says the emergency meeting of the Agriculture Committee the Conservatives called will be Friday, March 29.
