Ken Ritter

A former chair of the Canadian Wheat Board is being remembered for his work and effort.

Ken Ritter, who farmed in west central Saskatchewan, passed away Sunday after a battle with cancer.

Ritter served as chair of the CWB from 1999 until 2008.

When Ritter was chair of the CWB he defended the grain marketer, saying the monopoly is for the benefit of all farmers.

Memorial services for Ken Ritter will be held at 11am on Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kindersley.

Current CWB chair Allen Oberg says Ritter presided over some of the board's defining moments as it transitioned from a government entity to a farmer-controlled grain marketing organization.
