The Province’s Agriculture Minister is very concerned over the news this week that China has now stopped Canola Shipments from Viterra.

David Marit says first and foremost farmers are their first priority and they will always stand up for the farmers and ranchers in this Province:

"We still remain very confident in the science-based approach of our canola products and all our Saskatchewan comities," he said. "We're concerned about it; we're concerned about what's next and who's next."

Marit adds that he has been offering any support he can to the Federal Government for a resolution and that everyone in the ag sector is concerned.

"I know we've talked to pea processors here in the province, we've talked to the grain sector and the pulse sector. We've talked to those folks, and everybody is concerned with what's going on, and we continue to be that," he said. "There are proper channels and the processes, and at the end of the day we have to make sure that we can still have could trade relationships with China."

He notes at some point this situation with China has to be engaged by a higher level through the Prime Minister’s Office.
