Hockey Day in Saskatchewan is coming to Assiniboia.

The annual event targeted at promoting the game of hockey and building community spirit will hit the area on January 19th of next year.

“Assiniboia is looking at building a brand new facility which is hosting a hockey rink and curling rinks as well.”, said Mike Jensen, coordinator of promotions and events for the Saskatchewan Hockey Association, “This is going to be a way for them to raise funds for this new facility and really continue to promote hockey in these rural communities.”

Jensen adds that Hockey day in Saskatchewan is for all communites and not just the hosting community, “Hockey day in Saskatchewan is for all communities and not only the host community to really showcase hockey in the community and showcase hockey throughout the province and really focus on minor hockey all the way up to the more elite junior levels we have in the province.”

The SHA also encourages every minor hockey association to hold an event in their own community during hockey day.
