It's a day many players dread.

The Swift Current Broncos are holding fitness testing tonight as they begin training camp for the 2016-17 WHL season.

New coach Manny Viveiros will get some big insight into his roster.

"A lot of these guys had a long summer off," he said. "It tells me a lot that they put the work in this summer to get to the next level."

Viveiros knows good fitness is vital for guys trying to take their career to the next level.

"A lot of these kids are at the age group right now that we have to make that step for next year," Viveiros said. "If you don't show up to camp in shape, that says a lot - unless it's due to injury. With the long summer off, it's important that these kids are in shape."

Broncos Director of Hockey Operations Jamie Porter noted that from what he has seen most of the returning players appear to be in really good condition.

Swift Current will have a slightly smaller camp this year with approximately 70 players pushing for roster spots.

Scrimmages and on-ice sessions start tomorrow with the annual intersquad game on Sunday at 1pm.
