Glenn Gawdin is the new captain of the Swift Current Broncos.

The team unveiled their leadership group with Lane Pederson, Max Lajoie and Kade Jensen as alternates.

As the longest serving Bronco, Gawdin told Swift Current Online recently his leadership role had evolved this season.

"I think every year it builds," Gawdin said. "I'm the only guy that has been here this long. I think I kind of know how it works now especially with the new coach I try to help him as well. I just try to help the young guys out and try to do some leadership on and off the ice."

The Richmond, BC product was Swift Current's first round bantam draft pick in 2012. He has 143 points in 205 WHL games over four seasons.

That includes 14 points in 12 games to start this season for the St. Louis Blues draft pick.

Pederson gets a letter less than a year into his time with the team.

He also recently reflected on having a leadership role.

"With age it kind of comes naturally," Pederson said. "With more experience in the league you've been there, done that kind of thing and you can show these young guys the ropes. If the leadership role is something I'm given I'm going to take it in full stride, try and help this team along, help the young guys get comfortable and do everything I can to make sure we're putting a winning product on the ice this year."

Pederson also has 14 points in 12 games. He has 48 points in 49 games since the Broncos added him from Red Deer in a trade last season.

The Arizona Coyotes signed Pederson to an entry-level NHL contract two weeks ago.

Jensen also joined the Broncos by trade before the 2015-16 season from Lethbridge.

The veteran defenceman from Calgary has played 184 games in the WHL with a solid two-way style.

Lajoie is in his third season with the Broncos after they picked him in the fifth round of the 2012 draft.

The Ottawa Senators draft pick signed his NHL entry-level contract recently.

Lajoie has 6 points in 12 games this season and 84 points in 146 career WHL games.

Gawdin takes the role after former Broncos captain Jon Martin graduated to the AHL in the spring.

The whole leadership group will make their debut as Swift Current's captains on Friday when the Broncos host Seattle.
