Although the Swift Current Comp. Colts suffered their first loss of the season over the weekend, improvements are still being made.

On the road in Moose Jaw to battle the Peacock Tornadoes, the Colts managed to hold their own for the most part, falling 17-1.

Entering the contest, Peacock had averaged 39 points per game, so afterwards, Colts Head Coach Derek Murdoch was quick to praise the performance of his defense.

"Our guys were great. They (Peacock) are a very balanced football team on offense, and we are able to minimize the run game," he said.

"It was a tough day to get things going, it rained the whole game and the field was wet, slippery and muddy, but we did a really good job of containing a very good executing football team offensively."

Murdoch also added that competing with a team like the Tornadoes does a lot for the team mentally.

"We knew going into the season we were going to be a competitive team but we are just going to keep looking at it week-to-week, so now this week we just want to have a really good bounce back game and go down to Estevan and get things going again and get a win," he said.

"We've talked about now, we know we are right there with Peacock, so our goal is to focus on finishing second place in the league and hopefully host a playoff game or two and maybe play those guys again."

The Colts return to action Saturday when they visit Estevan.
