As the Swift Current Broncos start their BC Division road swing in Kelowna tonight they are going to need their depth to get through a busy swing of games.

That depth has been a big factor in their early success this season and has been bolstered thanks to an early improvement by three 19-year-old sophomores from Regina.

Conner Chaulk, Arthur Miller and Tyler Adams have all played bigger roles so far this season and have been rewarded on the scoresheet.

"You have to get contributions from everybody to have success in this league," said Broncos Coach/Director of  Player Personnel Manny Viveiros. "You can't win in this league with half the lineup going. You need everyone going the whole time."

Viveiros has followed through on his early commitment to a more balanced attack and the three former Regina Midget AAA teammates have taken advantage of that.

"Last year we had really just two lines," Adams said. "I don't care who you are you're going to get tired if you're playing a lot of minutes and it keeps just adding on and on throughout the games your top guys get tired. You need bottom six guys you can rely on who can play against other team's top six and won't get scored on. I feel like this year we've got a lot of strong two-way players on our bottom six that can play that two-way game, compete with the top six and provide some offence without being liabilities on the back end."

Chaulk has 7 points in 9 games, Miller has 6 and Adams has 5. Both Miller and Chaulk have already surpassed their rookie season point totals.

"Getting back that confidence in the summer was huge for me," Chaulk said. "Last year was an off year. It's been good so far playing with good players. Everyone I've been playing with has found ways to get me the puck or me to get them the puck. It's been good so far."

Getting to play more and in bigger situations is part of the confidence boost. The other aspect is just having been through a full season in the league and being more prepared as a veteran.

"Getting that year obviously gives you more confidence," Chaulk noted. "You know what to expect, you know what the situations are going to be and you know how hard the league is going to be. We had to put in that extra work in the summer. Getting to play more gives you that confidence and feels like you can do things out there."

For Chaulk it's not only about offence but that his coach has been relying on him in key defensive situations like late in the game with a lead or on the penalty kill.

"Going out there in the last minute and killing the last minute to get the 'W' it's a good opportunity for me to show what I can do in my own end," he said. "Just to help the team win it's what I have to do."

Chaulk, Miller and Adams all won a championship together in Midget AAA and spent time playing on lines together as WHL rookies. Now the Regina three are spread out throughout the Swift Current lineup and all making an impact in a 6-2-0-1 start that has the Broncos tied for top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Swift Current's road swing begins tonight in Kelowna against Shaunavon's Kole Lind and the Rockets. They are in Prince George Tuesday, Kamloops Wednesday, Victory on Friday and Vancouver on Saturday.
