As if a summer that ended in a WMBL championship could not get much better, it just did for the Swift Current Indians Baseball Club.

Earlier this week, the Indians were ranked the 15th best collegiate summer team in North America by New York based Collegiate Summer Baseball.

Collegiate Summer Baseball covers all 31 collegiate summer leagues in North America, choosing from over 300 teams to create their annual list of the top 35.

Indians' President Bruce Deg says the recognition came as a pleasant surprise.

"It's a very good honour to achieve that," he said.

"It is an independent baseball organization that looks at this all and they base it on the type of league we are in, where we rank standings wise, what type of season we had. It is just a testament to everything our coaching staff has done and a testament to the level the WMBL is playing at, so we are very proud of that."

Earlier this month, the Tribe claimed their 6th league title since 2000, sweeping the Edmonton Prospects in the best-of-five championship series.

Deg added a lot of hard work from a lot of different people goes in to helping Swift Current maintain their winning tradition, as well as receive such recognition as the high ranking.

"Season in and season out, there are a lot of volunteers that help us with is," he said.

"A lot also has to be attributed to what Coach Joe (Carnahan) does for us, especially with recruitment."

Coach Carnahan also recognized the amount of hard work and effort the club receives when reflecting on the honour.

"To finish the season ranked as the 15th best summer collegiate team in all of North America is a reflection of the hard work of our players, staff and organization," he said.
