Shaunavon's popular Frenchman River Gospel Jamboree kicked off yesterday, for an action-packed weekend.

This year, featured artists include Saskatchewan's own Brad Johner, the Hunter Brothers and Catherine Lewans.

JJ Hunter, organizer of the Jamboree says the festival has a lot of history in the region.

"This upcoming weekend is our 25th anniversary. For 20 years it was held in the Frenchman River Valley. The last five years it has been held in the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre in Shaunavon. The Jamboree always been varied in its musical styles. It started out as a very quartet-oriented event," said Hunter.

This year's events will also include many American singers, coming north of the border to perform.

Hunter adds that this year's event includes a free stage for all to attend.

"We also have a 2nd stage. Both stages are located at the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre. The paid stage is on the rink side, while the free stage is on the curling rink side. The free stage will run Saturday from 10am until 5:30pm. Also, Sunday morning will have a church service held before a concert in the afternoon," he said.

The 25th Anniversary of the Jamboree will wrap up on the 31st.
