Local Sales Consultant Bruce Deg is running for city council in the upcoming municipal election.

Deg, who works at Cypress Motors, has been a resident of Swift Current for the past 12 years.

The Vanguard native was part of the Rolling Hills Health District Governance Board as a Member before becoming the chairperson. Deg served as a board member for the Cypress Health Region for seven years, before moving onto the Swift Current Indians Baseball organization where he is currently serving as team President.

"My commitment to the community is, kind of evident in the past few years; I've been quite busy and active with all the volunteerism that I do in the community," Deg said. "That kind of shows what my commitment to the community is. I feel that if our community is thriving, everyone benefits from that."

The former business owner believes the high number of candidates running city council is a positive for the city.

"There are a lot of candidates in this upcoming election and I really hope that people understand, how dedicated these people (candidates) are to the community and why they are doing it. I think that's a real good show that this community is vibrant and growing," he said.

All 18 candidates' running for city council will be at the Living Sky Centre in early October for the all candidates forum.
