One of two new members elected to City Council happens to be the youngest as well.

Chris Martens finds himself in unfamiliar territory after he was named the sixth and final member of the 2016 City Council.

After the final totals were announced in this year's civic election, Martens discussed his campaign effort.

"This has been a lot of hard work - a lot of late nights and a lot of long weekends.

None of this could have happened without the support of my family who have been there through the whole thing. My wife Amanda has been by my side right from the start.

I am just so excited right now," he said.

Martens says he understands the task ahead of him, and he's excited for the challenging learning-curve that comes with being on Council.

"The biggest part is to learn. Talking with past Councillors and some Dignitaries, the learning process is big but it's exciting and there's so much to get out of it.

Going forward, being a part of making Swift Current grow has me more excited than anything else - knowing that I'm a part of something positive for the city that I love is huge," he said.

City Council will now be composed of Martens and another new Councillor, Bruce Deg, who join the four incumbents: Ryan Plewis, Pat Friesen, Ron Toles, and George Bowditch.

Newly elected Mayor, Denis Perrault, along with Council will be officially sworn in on November 7th when the group takes to Council Chambers for their first council meeting of the term.
