Students at Great Plains College got back to hitting the books again this week.

The college took a break for the holiday season, but is now back in operation and looking forward to the year ahead.

Interim President, Bruce Probert says there are developments on the way for the college in the coming months: "We're adding a program in Swift Current, our new facility allows us to do that, it's a 20-week Electrician program that will be starting in the next couple of months. Another program that we probably have coming up later in the spring is a continuing care system program, we're working with the Cypress Health Region on that one."

This year marks the first time the college will be fully operational since the major expansion and renovation project, and Probert says with the expansion complete, it's now full-steam ahead. "It's a tremendous facility... if anybody hasn't seen it, they ought to just drive by and have a look, but inside, it's been well-utilized. We're filled right to the rafters, but it's allowing us to do a whole lot more."

Some more developments planned for the months ahead include the addition of an early childhood education program, and an early care assistant program.
