The Ponteix RCMP are currently investigating a home in the village of Mankota, after the residence was vandalized with spray paint.

The house that was vandalized last Wednesday night with the racially insensitive remarks. The home isn't the only one in the village that has been painted lately said two locals.

Grant Martin, the mayor of Mankota has never seen his village react they way they have over the past week.

"All I can say is Mankota is a nice town. The people are good and are very generous. They are very angry about what has happened right now, I've never seen this kind of anger in this town," he said.

The family had lived in the community for over a year said locals. Dave Miketon, Mankota citizen was surprised by what had happened.

"They're as far as I know and as far as I've seen from interaction and response from other people, they're well accepted by the community. I've had to deal with the fellow and he's worked in town and nobody has had complaints that I'm aware of," Miketon said.

Former RCMP officer and Mankota resident Roy Harrison says he believes the family had left town before the incident had occurred.

"I just don't think it's going to have any impact around here. He had left here before this, he had left for work in Edmonton from what I understand. I'd heard about it third hand, I called the police and they'd already been informed about it. I never went to see what was (spray painted) on it (the house). I just think the whole thing is childish," said the Neighbour.

The RCMP currently aren't calling the incident a hate crime.
