Five local employers are hoping they can help fill the Credit Union iPlex during Bronco games

Five major employers in Swift Current are getting together to try and make it easier for families to support the financially troubled Swift Current Broncos.

The Cypress Health Region, Chinook School Division, Innovation Credit Union, as well as the Rural Municipality and City of Swift Current are offering discounted silver zone Broncos season family passes through a payroll deduction.

City CAO Susan Motkaluk describes the initiative as a partnership between the employers, the Broncos and some private sponsors to encourage more families to get behind the hockey club.

"The Broncos are an economic feature to our community, I think they're bringing in approximately $6 million annually into the community," Motkaluk said. "Our regional partners came together and we really just dreamed up this concept of saying how can we help the Broncos?"

"Basically we're trying to sell 600 more season tickets."

Employees of the five different partners can buy a family pass to every remaining Bronco game for only $25 a pay period over 18 pay periods. This initiave comes a month after the Broncos announced a nearly $200,000 loss in the 2010-2011 season.

"We're going to try this, I don't know if it's going to continue in the future," Motkaluk said. "As we look into the future we should consider bringing in more partners."

Each partner is donating their administrative work to the initiative. The Broncos are helping out by offering discounted tickets that are partially subsidized by some private sponsors.
