The Saskatchewan Health Authority has announced that the Town of Maple Creek has been one area in the southwest that has increased COVID-19 variants of concern cases.

Late Wednesday afternoon the Mayor of Maple Creek, Michelle McKenzie, took to the town's Facebook page to let residents know of immediate changes at the Town Office.

The Director of Operations will be working from home, the Chief Administrative Officer and the Chief Executive Officer will begin rotating shifts from home to the office, and the Water Treatment Plant operators will begin rotating shifts at the Plant.

The Town Office and the Visitors Center in the community are closed to the public, effective immediately, with operations moving to online and telephone.

Mayor McKenzie urged all Maple Creek residents to adhere to the current Public Health order. The town will be going door to door today with flyers from the SHA with updated information on the variants of concern.

Mayor McKenzie said, "If COVID-19 cases continue to increase in our community, Saskatchewan Health Authority, on direction from the Chief Medical Officer, will contact the Town of Maple Creek and further restrictions may be put in place by the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The Town of Maple Creek will continue to provide updates as we learn more and are provided with further information."
