January of 2016 saw the birth of the Safe Places initiative in Swift Current. Since then it has been adopted by the 57’s, Formerly called the Swift Current Indians, of the WMBL, the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL, MNP, The City

Council and the Staff of the City of Swift Current. Over 800 individuals have registered and taken the online course and passed the security checks.

Mayor Denis Perrault discussed the program and the impact it has had on the first anniversary. He Said, “Honestly we’ve had real positive support. I give a lot of credit to Mayor Schafer who initiated this program along with Sheldon Kennedy. Sheldon came to our community on Jan the 8th and that’s where he released his documentary, Swift Current, and it was shortly thereafter where we released the Safe Places Program.”

Perrault discussed the range and scope of the program and how the support from council, will be ongoing.
