Police across the country will be seeking out impaired drivers today.

The RCMP nationwide have proclaimed today as National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day, an initiative that will see enhanced traffic enforcement on the roads.

Mike Young, a Constable with the RCMP spoke about today's proclamation.

"Over the 24 hour period (today), the RCMP will be conducting enhanced traffic enforcement in regards to impaired driving enforcement and detection," he said.

Young also went onto shared more details pertaining to today.

"The RCMP has the authority to stop (people) for driver licence's registration and sobriety checks. With vehicles driving they can expect to be stopped by police for those reasons, furthermore there will be check-stops setup through southwest regional traffic services, city RCMP and the rural RCMP in the later hours of the evening," Young said Thursday.

Young encouraged people partaking in the season festivities to use their best judgement and plan a safe ride home.
