This weekend it’s a chance to step back in time and experience life in the old west.

The Ranchman’s Ridin’ and Recitin’ event is free and gets underway today at Kinetic Park.

Grant Scheirlinck, the Chairs of the event for the Swift Current Ag and Ex Committee says there’s a lot to see and do.

"We've got the heavy horse competition, I believe starts at 10, at noon we have our cattle pen show, which is jam packed full again this year, there are 56 pens of cattle from Alberta and Saskatchewan. Barn five we have our bullpen alley which is bulls on display on there," Scheirlinck said.

In Barn 5 you’ll also find cowboy poetry, musical entertainment and a western trade show.

"We've got western clothing, western art, saddle makers, and leather goods, as well as ropes and haulers. Everything for the ranchers should be in there," he said.

He notes they also have Cowboy Music and Entertainment happening from 4 until the banquet begins at 6.  Tickets for the banquet will be available on site.

The Young Ranchman’s event also continues today in the livestock area.
