A telemarketing scam is going around the province affecting SaskPower customers.
There are reports that many customers have received telephone calls from people claiming to be from the Crown Utility offering a device that can cut power use in half. Media Relations Manager for SaskPower, Shawn Silzer, says neither the corporation nor the Provincial Government are offering this product, and adds if you've received a call like this, you should report it to PhoneBusters at 1-888-495-8501, or if you have been victimized, contact police and your financial institution.
Silzer adds although it sounds tempting, there is no one device that can cut power usage, but rather doing some small things to reduce energy consumption including switching to energy efficient appliances.
