Residents in Swift Current have been raising concerns with the City about door to door sales calls and the potential for a scam.

The latest concern revolves around the sale of furnaces.

Jackie Schlamp, By-law Compliance and Licensing Official for the City explains what it takes to get a door to door selling license

Schlamp said, "We've specifically established a procedure for the registration of such sellers to be conducting business within our community. Each business or person must produce the following documents; an original license issued by the Province of Saskatchewan, a valid photo drivers license or passport, a valid company ID, a valid registration of all vehicles being used while doing business within our city, the location and phone number of any accommodation while staying in our city and, the name and phone number of the supervisor on duty while in our city. Once the City's By-law Compliance and Licensing Official has issued the City of Swift Current license, all persons conducting business must then attend our local RCMP Detachment to register there also. These procedures have been implemented to assist in the protection our community."

Schlamp says that residents should ask questions and make sure they read the details before signing any long term agreement. If a resident is concerned she also suggests residents contact the Saskatchewan Consumer Protection Branch.
