A local woman considered by some to be the greatest female hockey player in the world has scored another achievement.

Hayley Wickenheiser was offically named today as an officer of the Order of Canada, receiving the honour from Governor-General David Johnston in Ottawa.

The 33-year-old Shaunavon native, who now lives in Calgary, is already a member of the order, and was inducted as an officer earlier this year.

Wickenheiser has won three gold medals as a member of Canada's Olympic team and multiple gold medals at the World Women's Championships.

The newly-built hockey rink in Shaunavon, the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre, is also named in her honour.
