Parliament resumes on Monday, and issues surrounding agriculture are expected to be in the forefront during the fall session.

Cypress Hills-Grasslands Conservative MP David Anderson says the government will continue to work toward removing the Canadian Wheat Board's monopoly on grain sales in time for the start of the next crop year.

This is still being done despite the results of a Board-commissioned plebiscite, which showed producer support for maintaining the single desk, something Anderson says won't change their mind.

Anderson adds there will also be movement on a long-awaited review of rail freight service in Canada, saying that it is a major part of the proposed changes to the Wheat Board.

Meanwhile, Regina-Wascana Liberal MP Ralph Goodale says the debate on the bill to remove the CWB's single desk will be long and contentious.

Results from the CWB’s producer plebiscite show 62% of wheat growers and 51% of barley growers voted to maintain the ability to market their grains through the board’s single-desk monopoly.
