An Agricultural Listening Forum with Sask Party Leadership Candidate Ken Cheveldayoff was held in Swift Current Monday.

Cheveldayoff and his associates heard from representatives of APAS, SARM, Prairie Oat Growers, Sask Canola, the Sask Cattlemen’s Association and the Swift Current Chamber of Commerce.

He notes they came out to talk about some of the key agriculture issues and areas that need to be addressed from rural internet to enhanced weather predictions, trade, and more.

"The groups very much want to focus on that increased trade component, and that's where they're saying the government's doing a good job - just keep doing what you're doing. And enhance those relationships with the federal government," said Cheveldayoff. "Where they're telling us we have to do a better job is the carbon tax, for example. I'm very much against the carbon tax, but I always say, 'well so what?' I think every one of the candidates in this leadership race will be against it."

He says we have to do a better job of telling the story of agriculture and carbon, because Agriculture is the biggest carbon sink we have in the country.

Cheveldayoff also said they've heard government could do a better job with "weather predictions and things like that - if there could be enhanced technology."
