There’s a lot of concern over jobs and the federal governments proposed program cuts as a result of last month’s federal budget. Employee Unions are saying 386 jobs in the Ag Sector will be affected either through layoffs or transfers.

Some of those transfers are happening in Manitoba where the Cereal Grains Research Facility at Winnipeg will be closed. Cypress Hills Grasslands MP David Anderson said he’s not aware of any impact for Swift Currents SPARC station, “We've worked very hard to make sure we protect our research centers and SPARC as you know is very important, it's critical for Western Canadian grains production and certainly work hard to maintain their position and they seem to have done that so far.”

Anderson noted one of the key changes for Saskatchewan in the Federal Budget will be to the PFRA , “We're going to be divesting the community pastures that the Federal Government has, we really thing it's time to turn that back to the province, in terms of Indian Head the research center there is my understanding is protected but the shelter belt program is a place we are looking for private partnership”

Anderson said he’s hearing a lot of feedback from people concerned about the deficit and the fact that more needs to be done to reduce the size of government
