Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart was holding his cards close to his chest this week when he spoke at the Saskatchewan Stock Growers AGM and Convention.

The Province is planning on winding down the Saskatchewan Pasture Program after this year’s grazing season is complete.

The government held public meetings and did an online consultation to get input from producers on what direction to take in the dispersal process.

"We're going to make an announcement as to which way things are going to proceed here very soon," he said. "Without letting the cat out of the bag yet, I think what I will say is that we're going to go the route that most of the producers asked us to do.

"We had a good strong online response and large meetings, we only had three public meeting around the province in key areas that were well attended. The people that attended were mostly patrons and pasture managers, we think we got a good sounding of what the general public and particularly the general public would like to see."

Saskatchewan Stock Grower President Shane Jhanke says they just want to see that the patrons get looked after and have first right of access to it.

Stewart says he’ll be making an announcement on the subject soon.

The Saskatchewan Pastures Program consists of approximately 780,000 acres located at 50 sites throughout the province.
