The Ag Sector is hoping for a quick end to CP’s rail strike.

Labour Minister Lisa Raitt said she has already laid the groundwork for a legislated end to the strike if the two sides can't reach an agreement.

Norm Hall, President of the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan, said they welcome the government working on back-to-work legislation.

"I believe it was the minister saying that this rail strike could cost Canada $540 million a week," explained Hall.

Canadian Pacific has suspended rail freight service across the country as 4,500 engineers, conductors and others remain off the job.
