The Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan has been talking about a variety of issues during their Annual District Meetings.

RM Representatives are talking about everything from the Carbon Tax to Rural Crime, the Rural Water Infrastructure Program to Surface Rights.

Don Connick is the Director for District 3 says APAS would like to see the Province review the Surface Rights Act.

“Perhaps regulations in regards to wind farms, solar farms, power lines, and pipelines may not want to be under the surface rights act but treated separately. In any case, the Surface Rights Act needs to be opened up and looked at to ensure landowners are getting fair compensation for the oil and gas and pipelines that are on their land.”

He says farmers need to be aware that some of the surface rights clauses in contracts have changed giving companies like oil and gas, wind and solar or powerline projects more rights than you think when it comes to your land use and access… so be aware of what you're signing.

APAS holds it's Annual General Meeting November 27-29 at the Queensbury Convention Centre in Regina.
