Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud

As we wait for Industry Canada to make a ruling on the $6.1 billion take over bid from Glencore to purchase Viterra, Saskatchewan's Agriculture Minister weighed in on the subject this morning at a breakfast hosted by Moose Jaw MLAs Greg Lawrence and Warren Michelson.

Bob Bjornerud says there are some positives to the deal, like allowing local farmers more access to international markets, but there are also some concerns.

"Number one, of course, were jobs in the head office in Regina and that's going to happen," says Bjornerud. "I think we're going to see that as Richardson takes over part of the industry and Agrium takes over the other part, of course remembering that Richardson is headquartered in Winnipeg and Agrium headquartered in Calgary, some of those jobs we know aren't going to stay in Regina."

In the end, Bjornerud expects the deal to be approved by Industry Canada, a decision that could come down at the end of the week.
