Clubroot Disease has been confirmed in Saskatchewan.

The disease, which can dramatically affect the quality of a crop yield, was identified through DNA testing and found in two Canola fields in the North central part of the Province.

Faye Dokken-Bouchard is the Provincial Plant Disease Specialist and says this is a strong reminder that the risk is very real for Saskatchewan. She does not feel though the disease will pose a widespread risk though.

She says in order to prevent the disease it’s important to use resistant varieties, maintain a 4 year crop rotation and be sure to clean equipment and vehicles before moving into a new field to prevent the soil borne disease from spreading.
