There’s a lot of frustration in the Canadian Beef Industry and on social media this week.

Earl’s Restaurants, which owns 59 stores in Canada and 7 in the U-S, announcing it will be serving Certified Humane beef from the U-S which is raised without the use of antibiotics or steroids and no added hormones.

Earls Press Release says at this time there simply isn’t enough raised without antibiotic beef in Canada to meet their demand, adding that when this changes in the future they  will absolutely revisit their suppliers.

Ryder Lee is the Executive Director for the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association and see’s the move as a marketing ploy

"It's not better it is just a different story. If you're eating in Canada and buying in a store or restaurant, you're buying good and safe food. The story you're buying with it might it might change the price, but still high quality and safe."

"Different businesses want to sell different stories, if they can sell a story and charge more they'll try that."

Lee says it’s not better beef it’s just a different story and a different method of production.

He adds Canadian Beef is high quality and safe adding that producers take pride in the way they raise their cattle and their animal health practices.
