The Canadian Wheat Board is looking forward to working with farmers in the new Marketing environment

Gord Flaten CWB’s Vice President of Marketing and Sales told producers at Crop Production last week that they are looking to partner with grain terminals to handle and transport the grain.

He says once those agreements are in place they will be able to release the contracting details:

Bill C-18 ends the CWB’s single desk marketing monopoly as of  August 1st .

Meanwhile, It's expected a Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench judge will decide whether to grant an injunction against Bill C-18 this week.

The judge denied a request in mid-December from the eight former directors of the Canadian Wheat Board who were asking for an immediate suspension of the legislation that ends the CWB's single desk. At the time, Judge Shane Perlmutter said he did not see the need for an immediate stay, but scheduled further hearings for the middle of January to decide whether the bill should be suspended until the court has determined its validity.

Those hearings are taking place in Winnipeg today and tomorrow.

The eight former directors are asking the court to invalidate the legislation, citing the Federal Court ruling that said the agriculture minister acted contrary to the previous CWB Act by introducing C-18 to the House of Commons.
