smoke

Rain is very much needed in Saskatchewan this week, not just to replenish cropland moisture conditions, but to help keep wildfires under control.

Smoke from northern forest fires have been affecting much of the province over the last day, and World Weather Agri-Meteorologist Drew Lerner says the hazy air conditions will continue.

"We do expect maybe a little bit of a wind shift at some point as we go forward through the next few days, and maybe we'll push some of this smoke out of the area for a little while, but it will only be briefly because we'll probably go back into somewhat of a similar weather pattern," he said. "The frontal boundary that is going to be coming and pushing the winds around in a different direction for awhile will also bring us a chance for some showers and a few thunderstorms. Not expecting big soakings across the region, and neither should you I suppose."

Lerner adds because of the dry conditions, the likelihood of a large-scale severe thunderstorm is pretty low right now.
