With the recent hot, dry weather that has occurred on the south side of the Trans Canada Highway, it has caused an early harvest to get underway in the province.

Due to the early harvest, winter cereals, peas and lentils yields are reported to be significantly lower than the average.

Saskatchewan Agriculture's Brent Flaten talked about what is causing the yields to be lower than normal.

"The winter wheat had an advantage of accessing the spring moisture, but even there the yields are down from what they have been in the past, just because of the heat stress"
