This year marks the 15th Anniversary of Farm Credit Canada’s Drive Away Hunger Campaign.

FCC offices across Canada and participating businesses are collecting food and cash donations for local food banks.

Last year they helped provide over 7.2 million meals for food banks across Canada.

John Steele is a Manager of Business Development with FCC and talks about how people can get involved.

“At all 100 offices across Canada, we accept donations both food and cash donations. We also have various partners that partner with us to collect food and also provide cash donations as well. If you want to get involved you can do cash donations online at www.fccdriveawayhunger.ca or you can stop in at your local FCC office and get involved that way.”

He says as far as what to donate they are looking for a variety of items.

“Pasta, rice, sauces, canned meats, fish, packaged nuts, peanut butter, beans, soups, instant formula baby food. There is an entire list on our website, but basically, you know any items you use in your own home would be welcome by the food bank.”

In Saskatchewan last year, FCC’s Swift Current location donations equaled 183 thousand meals, with SWT and their customers donating the equivalent of more than 145,000 meals.

Moose Jaw’s FCC office supported 17,578 meals, Humboldt’s office 16,895 meals, Rosetown 16,701 meals, Kindersley 7,252 meals, Weyburn 3,007 meals, and Assiniboia 13,919 meals

FCC for the second year in a row is also contributing $100,000 to support school meal programs across Canada as part of their annual campaign to help alleviate hunger.

Some of the schools benefitting from the program in Saskatchewan included Dinsmore Composite School, Westberry Elementary School, St Agnes School, Wymark School, Ecole Gravelbourg School, Stoughton Central School, and St Dominic School.
