The Purebred Beef Events kicked off Tuesday at Canadian Western Agribition.

There was some tough competition in the Chevrolet GMC Arena as the First Lady Classic, Futurity and Presidents Classic interbreed competition marked the first show in the new International Trade Centre.

The First Lady Classic Champion Female was exhibited by Wheatland Cattle Company at Bienfait.

Riley Lafrentz says winning the title at Agribition means a lot.

"We use showing cattle here at Agribition as a big marketing tool to get out in front of people and promote our product and show them what we have and just showcase our breeding program," Lafrentz said. "We've always been big on using a lot of our own genetics and breeding our own cattle. That just means we're a breeding program, we believe in the bulls and females that we raise and we want to multiply them and show people what we can do as a breeding program and as a family."

This is the second time that Wheatland Cattle Company has won the Canadian Western Agribition Grand Champion title at the First Lady Classic.

The Reserve Champion Female was exhibited by 15-year-old Baxter Blair from Double B Angus at Maclean, Saskatchewan.

Baxter says he started showing cattle at Agribition about 4 or 5 years ago and really enjoys being a part of the show.

"I've been in this show for how long and it's always been a privilege just being the champion class," Blair said. "Being able to compete with people with such high-quality cattle and being able to come away with the award is truly breathtaking."

The First Lady Classic is an Interbreed Competition, this year it featured 100 head of cattle representing 11 different breeds.
