Anyone with ties to the forage industry is very familiar with the variety “Fleet” and the work of Dr Bob Knowles.
Knowles developed Fleet, a meadow brome grass, in 1987. The grass variety has been named the 2011-12 Seed of the Year West.
Secan’s Marketing Rep Trent Whiting nominated Fleet, and says almost 25 years after its release Fleet is still considered a leading variety in the marketplace.
Dr. Bob Knowles was a scientist at Agriculture Canada Saskatoon Research Centre developing Fleet and other perennial grasses grasses for western Canada until his passing in 1988.
