The lawyer for the Friends of the Canadian Wheat Board says a victory for them in court could force the Federal Government to conduct a producer plebiscite on the future of the CWB single desk.

Anders Bruun believes the case could go all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada.

Bruun says the case raises issues which have not been before the court before, in that the CWB act, according to him, is the only federal statute that requires a vote among the people who are affected before a change in the legislation can occur.

Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz says he's simply repealing the whole CWB act, and he welcomes the opportunity to argue his case in court.
