frost

It was another cool night in parts of Saskatchewan.

Frost warnings were out for much of the southern half of the province overnight, and Environment Canada is calling for overnight lows to range from -1 to +2 for the next few nights.

Producers are being encouraged to evaluate their crops for signs of frost damage, especially in any low lying areas. "Depending on how cold it does get, the moisture levels will certainly act as a bit of a buffer," said Grant McLean, Cropping Management Specialist with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture. "I think the cereals, with the exception of the winter cereals, are still in most cases at three-leaf or less, and are less vulnerable."

According to the latest Saskatchewan Crop Report, about 64% of the crop is in the ground provincewide. In the southwest, 75% per cent has been seeded, and some canola, cereals and pulses are starting to emerge.
