Farmers are again being reminded to stay safe during seeding and ensure they stay clear of overhead power lines.

SaskPower has reported at least four incidents where farm equipment has come into contact with power lines just in the last week.

Jordan Jackle, a spokesman for the SaskPower, says in a given year, they see these incidents the most during seeding and spraying.

"It's mainly due to the size of the equipment that's moving around," he said. "How high it gets and also how mobile it gets. Producers are transporting equipment from fields to field, and there are risks around powerline contact."

Jackle says they tend to see these incidents more during seeding and spraying with larger and more mobile equipment.

He adds farmers may also be under increased pressure with a late start to seeding, and he’s urging everyone to still take the time to know where the lines are before starting your work.

"Once you get into the cab of your machinery be sure to take that moment to take a look around," he said. Whether it's a yard you've worked it for years or a field or maybe your seeding for the very first time, reminding people it only takes a moment and to be away out their and be safe."

Jackle adds if your equipment does hit a power line, it’s important to stay in the cab and call SaskPower at 310-2220 or call 9-1-1 right away.
