Glencore

Glencore is coming under some serious scrutiny this week after a BBC documentary.

Glencore is the Swiss based company spearheading that 6.1 billion dollar takeover of Viterra.

The documentary "Billionaire's Behaving Badly" claims the company has links to child labour, and is involved in dumping chemicals into rivers in the Congo.

Speaking on the BBC Panorama Documentary, Glencore Chief Executive Ivan Glasenberg refuted the claims.

On the issue of child labor shown at one of the mines in the Congo Glencore says it stopped operating the mine in 2008 adding that it was invaded in 2010 by "artisanal" miners, effectively squatters, who operate without the companys permission.

Regarding the claim of chemical dumping Glencore says the problem has been fixed and that the effluent outfall has stopped.
