This week's snowfall has caused challenges for drivers, but is a welcome site for many farmers concerned about soil moisture.

Drew Lerner with World Weather Inc was the keynote speaker at the Cropportunities event in Swift Current Tuesday.

About 240 producers came out to hear Lerner's weather forecast

He told the group he expects to see some more snowfall ahead which will definitely help some of the drier areas with soil moisture for the spring.

"I'm not sure it's going to be phenomenally significant," Lerner said. "We will definitely make up for a little bit of lost time. The storm systems are all going to have a weakness though. We shouldn't see the big blizzards we've seen in the past, at least not right away. I think there will be a chance for something like that to evolve, but not necessarily in the next few weeks. A little later when we want it to warm up we will probably run into a cold surge and a blizzard like storm system."

Lerner anticipates we could see a slightly below average temperatures and more precipitation through the spring as La Nina begins to dissipate in April and May.
