Livestock Producers affected by this year’s wildfires in the Southwest can now apply to Provincial Disaster Assistance Program, for assistance providing feed to affected livestock.

Producers will have suffered wildfire damages to “tame and native lands intended for grazing.

Government Relations Minister Larry Doke

"Loss of grazing lands is not covered under PDAP however, the loss of the feed itself is what is being covered," he said. "Incremental costs, provide feed for effective livestock, due to the loss of these grazing lands, could include the transportation of feed, renting additional pasture, or the cost purchasing feed you normally, wouldn't be purchasing."

Stock Growers President Shane Jahnke says the assistance through PDAP will provide welcome relief for producers.

The drought in Southern Saskatchewan has already led to feeding shortages, he says adding, it will be very expensive to replace the winter feed lost in the wildfires.

Producers will have to meet the eligibility requirements for PDAP and can start by contacting their municipality or the PDAP office directly.
