Officials from Canada, the U.S. and Mexico are meeting in Mexico City this week for round 7 of the NAFTA Renegotiations.

Earlier this week U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Canada for the way we've benefited from the deal, calling Canada "very smooth".

Federal Ag Minister Lawrence MacAulay, speaking yesterday at the Canadian Federation of Agriculture AGM in Ottawa, reassured the supply management sector that the Liberal government will support the industry.

"With NAFTA and with all our trading agreements, our government continues to strongly defend the interests of all the agriculture sectors and that includes our dairy, poultry and egg sectors. The government's position on trade is strong and balanced. The government's support for supply management has been unwavering through these NAFTA negotiations and that will continue."

MacAulay said making concessions to supply management was a"'non-starter".

This latest round of NAFTA talks are scheduled to wrap up on March 6th.
