The president of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture says one of CFA's priorities for 2012 will be to maintain the federal budget for agriculture.

"I don't think it's any surprise that one of the things we'll be watching is the budget excercise. All governments around the world are talking about budget cutbacks. We want to make sure that agriculture is positioned as a strategic investment," says Ron Bonnett.

"There's also going to be a lot of work on the Growing Forward programs, making sure we get the details of that right," he says.

Bonnett says 2011 was a relatively positive year for Canadian farmers, with strong grain and livestock prices.
