Now is the time for producers and industry to find ways to increase cereal research investments in order to compete with other crops and other countries. That from Dave Sefton Chair of the Western Grains Research Foundation.

Sefton said it's unfortunate that the Cereal Research Centre in Winnipeg is being closed but admits it was getting old and outlived its usefulness, “We have always thought that there would be a rebuild of the Cereal Research Centre in Winnipeg and we of course tried to help that decision making process by offering up to four million dollars.”

Sefton adds "we're going to try and work with Ag Canada to make this work to the best advantage of Western Canadian farmers.”

The foundation remains committed to its four million dollar contribution towards a Centre of Grains Excellence in Winnipeg.
