Agriculture plays a key role in the provincial economy, and it is being celebrated with October proclaimed as Agriculture Month in Saskatchewan.

Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud says overall about 25% of the jobs in the province have a link to the Ag Sector, and despite the excess moisture problem that some producers faced, things are looking fairly positive right now, saying that we don't have to look far to see very good yields across the province, and the dollars that puts into the provincial economy is tremendous.

Bjornerud adds the Province and the Federal Government are also investing $100,000 in the future leaders of the ag sector. The new funding brings the total commitment to Saskatchewan’s Agriculture in the Classroom Program to $150 thousand dollars.

Saskatchewan’s 4-H program will also benefit, with a portion of the funding going towards a joint 4-H and Agriculture in the Classroom initiative.
