A voluntary Canadian Wheat Board could not function without some government intervention in the market, that’s according to a Board Director with the CWB.

The CWB Transition Group has recommended that the federal government give market forces every opportunity to work as the grain industry moves to an open market.

Bill Toews shares the board's perspective.

He says the transition taskforce report is short on detail, and leaves too much up to the Federal Agriculture Minister.

Richard Phillips of the Grain Growers of Canada was a member of the working group.

He says they're still asking the minister to monitor the market, and to intervene if anti-competitive behaviour becomes evident.
